Alice Cooper
The Nightmare Returns

I believe it was Roger Waters of Pink Floyd who said that the band would never be able to play a guitar like Eric Clapton or put on a show like Alice Cooper. And he has a point...
Alice put on a visual performance that Kiss ( a band that is also visual but tends to not have continuity on stage as they pause between each song for lengthy banter as they set-up, in my opinion, the next theatrics). Alice on the other hand kepth the songs rolling combining theatrics with magic. I saw him has his head cut off in a guillotine, and it continued singing from it. Alice is the Vincent Price of horror rock. Alice is tongue and cheek about it all whereas Ozzy when I saw him on the Ultimate Sin tour seemed to be sincere.
I saw Roger Waters a few years later. While it wasn't as good a show as Alice's, it was one of the best and a great DVD and CD are available called In the Flesh - Live.
