Who is in the Rock Hall of Fame, and is their membership Warranted?
AC/DC The band rocks out on their high voltage, amp shattering, ear bleeding, tunes, and people dance to them even though the tunes (with the exception of maybe Who Made Who) are not crafted for that purpose.
Aerosmith would deserve their induction solely for their 1973 smoking, self-titled debut featuring Mama Kin, One Way Street, and Dream On. Check out all their 70’s material over their post 70’s corporate rock and you will agree.
Although Love was initially hailed for their set at the Filmore, it was the Allman Brothers Band's Live at the Filmore that was immortalized on album, and what a jam. Ramblin’ Man is great country rock. Blue Sky the perfect ballad. The band had it all, man.
One could argue that LaVern Baker's entrance to the hall of fame would not happen today. Although she had 7 hits in the rock era, including the number 3 hit I Cried a Tear, LaVern is best known for her version of Jim Dandy.
It is interesting that Hank Ballard, the original performer of The Twist is in the hall while Chubby Checker remains outside its entrance. Hank and his band the Midnighters do deserve membership due to their legendary showmanship and other tunes Work with Me Annie, Finger Poppin Time, and Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go.
The Band had previously as the Hawks backed Ronnie Hawkins on the legendary Mary Lou, and they backed Dylan on the Basement Tapes. This band of Canadians plus one Arkansan would create music more southern than certified, grit eating, cow tipping, truck driving, good ole southern boy on The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down, The Weight, and Life is a Carnival.
