More Hall of Fame Members
Bobby "Blue" Bland's induction in the hall of fame is a mystery to me. Although he had hits in the rock era, they fit the pop realm better than rock. Don’t get me wrong; his Turn on Your Love Light is great. But Bobby does not have the guitar solos that aided other modern blues men into the hall as rock era performers. Bobby’s contemporaries are in the rock early influences category, but since Bobby scored his hits during the rock era the hall inducted him as a performer, an awkward fit at best.
Booker T. and the M.G.'s are a perfect fit into the hall of fame. They were the house band at Stax-Volt records and played on most of the classic soul tunes from the 60’s. That’s them rocking out with Wilson Pickett on seminal hits Mustang Sally, In the Midnight Hour, etc. That’s them on Eddie Floyd’s legendary Knock on Wood. They’re hangin’ out with Otis Redding at the Dock of the Bay. Remember the band jamming on Sam and Dave’s Soul Man. And if you are thinking Blues Brothers, well they make up that band too.
David Bowie is the king of glitter rock to Freddie Mercury’s Queen. David’s unique voice and concepts took Alice Cooper’s nightmare and turned it into another vision entirely be it spacemen, androgynous beings, or super freaks. It’s all well documented on Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Space Oddity, and Jean Genie. The 70’s were his diamonds with gems scattered about afterwards.
