Ray
Ray Charles
Too often when Hollywood tells a biographical account of a famous person it deifies the person. In Ray, Hollywood's account of the life of Ray Charles, the record is set straight. It's all here.
We see Ray's pain in his loss of sight while watching his mother's resilience to tearfully watch and not aid Ray as he becomes adjusted to being able to get around in a suddenly darkened world. We see Ray's guilt in death, heroin addiction, and infidelity. We also see Ray's God-given gift of musical creaivity as we realize what a musical genius he really was. This kind of gift does not come often, there's Mozart, Beethoven, Ray Charles, and the Beatles, not many more.
Although I was not ready to believe it, Jamie Foxx transcended acting in his portrayal of Ray. He became Ray Charles. The movie is just as great.
