Singer Gouged Out His Eye To Be Closer to God

R&B singer Houston's bodyguard recalls the incident. This is an unusual act for anyone to commit. The singer needs to be watched closely. From VH1 News ("The night of the incident, we had dinner at the hotel," Powell recalled. "After dinner, he went to his room to read the Bible. He is an avid reader of the Bible. After I finished eating, I went upstairs to check on him and I noticed blood on the floor. Houston usually has really bad nose bleeds. So I asked him, 'Are you OK? Is your nose bleeding?' He said, 'Yeah, my nose is bleeding but I'm cool. I will see you in the morning. I can't wait to get back to L.A. with my family.' He was lying on the bed with a towel over his face, so something told me it was more than [just a nose bleed]. So I walked into the room to talk to him, I pulled the towel off of his face, and that's when I saw that he had gouged his eye out."He showed no pain and he had no remorse," Powell added. "He said he had to do it. He said that that had freed him from everything. He was happy after that. He said he was changed and was ready to go. That symbolic statement basically freed him from all the pain he was in. He feels like he is closer to God now."Billie Summers, Houston's sister, also says the suicide rumors are untrue."Houston is a Christian and he does know that if he attempted anything like that he'd be doomed," Summers said. ")

Suicide will not necessarily lead one to doom. In Judges 16:26-30 (26 Samson said to the servant who held his hand, "Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them." 27 Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. 28 Then Samson prayed to the LORD, "O Sovereign LORD, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes." 29 Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, 30 Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines!" Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived. Samson committed suicide in the Bible and was listed among the Saints in Hebrews. Suicide did not lead him to eternal doom. Suicide however, is a shame and dishonor where one's ambitions end in defeat. A person who is saved that commits suicide would receive less rewards in Heaven and be among the lower echelon. I do not recommend it.
